4. What is the difference between Hot Fix and FlatBack Swarovski Rhinestones?
Hot Fix - These Swarovski Rhinestones are virtually the same as non-Hotfix, except they have a heat activated adhesive. They can be ironed on using hot fix transfer paper also known as mylar paper or applied using a Hot fix applicator, this type of rhinestone is great for applying to fabrics.
FlatBack - These Swarovski Rhinestones are great for applying to virtually anything you can think of, but you can't use an iron. These are applied using a permanent adhesive glue like "Gem-Tac" or "E6000". These glues work great on fabrics as well.
5. What Hot Fix applicator tool is better?
I like either one. They have their pros and cons, I will list them for you to help you decide:
BeJewler Pro - Comes with a handy tool to clean your tips. The tool starts to heat up as soon as you plug it in. Has a great comfort grip handle. I love the color! Just be careful with the little ones this hotfix applicator tool gets very hot and will burn your skin!
Kandi Professional Touch - Has an on/off switch built in. This is a great feature, you can control when the tool heats up, an added safety feature for sure! Great color, pink and purple! Comfortable grip.
6. What size Swarovski Rhinestone is right for me?
This all depends on your desired application. We have a size chart that shows the approximate sizes on our color/size chart page. We also have a PDF file that, when printed, will show you the exact sizes. Simply click on the Swarovski Rhinestone Size Chart for the PDF file.
7. How do you apply Hot Fix Swarovski Rhinestones?
There are two different methods that we reccomend:
Use a Hot Fix Applicator Tool to place the individual hotfix Swarovski Rhinestones in place following your design or hot fix stencil. You can draw or trace a design onto your fabric of choice and follow the design using the Hot Fix Applicator.
8. How do I apply FlatBack or non-hotfix Swarovski Rhinestones?
These are applied using a permanent adhesive glue like "Gem-Tac" or "E6000". Use a small amount of glue either on the back of the rhinestone itself or place a small amount on the object where the rhinestone will be placed. Simply apply the rhinestone in its place using the Rhinestone Jewel Setter, or tweezers and allow the glue to cure for the recommended time as stated on the type of adhesive you use.
9. What glue is better for applying FlatBack or non-hotfix Swarovski Rhinestones?
The E6000 and Gem-Tac both work great for creating a permanent bond. They both adhere to a number of different surfaces including, but not limited to:
lace, fabrics, trims, glass, ceramics, patent leather, wood, vinyl, leather, and more!
I would recommend using the E6000 on any of the above and rubber surfaces or outdoor applications, such as a license plate cover. E6000 has a little more elasticity to it than the Gem-Tac. I would recommend the Gem-Tac for cell phone covers. You will find your preference for either one, try them both and be sure to follow the directions on the package or bottle!
10. What is Hot Fix Transfer Paper? Is it the same as Mylar Paper?
Hot Fix Transfer Paper is the same as Mylar Paper, it is just another name for the same product.
HotFix Transfer Paper is a clear sticky paper that is made to hold the Hot Fix Flat Back Swarovski Rhinestone in place as you follow or create your design. It is also used to make Rhinestone Motifs. Once the design is created you can easily iron the design in place. Follow our how to instructions listed above.
